I dove into the challenge of learning Fortnite's UEFN to create Parkway, a roguelike TWDU-inspired Creative map using the TWDU x Fortnite's collaboration's full suite of tools. This project had taken 3 months to create the initial design, blockout, final iterations and set-dressings with Blueprinting and scripting to get the desired core gameplay experience!
Exploring Fortnite’s game mechanics, enemy spawning behavior and reward core gameplay loops, I crafted an open-ended linear level that players can fully explore, grind for Gold and Diamonds as loot and then redeem the currencies for awesome rewards and bonuses. Players encounter "Walker" zombies that serve as obstacles that players must eliminate in order to reach the end of the course. In addition, I added additional reward progression design in the form of unlockable doors leading to "secret routes" that mix up the gameplay and areas that players discover and "secret stashes" that are permanent unlocked treasure rooms that players can revisit when repeating their runs.
This project was very fun to work and it pushed me to master a new game editor while confining to UEFN's content and memory limits to create one of my first original PvE game experiences focusing on Encounter, Level Design and Game Design while blending an immersive zombie setting with Fortnite’s dynamic gameplay.
